We have had a few questions about Homework.

For Homework, Tumu Hub students are expected to read for 30 minutes each day. They are to read the text that they studied that day in their Reading Workshop or if they did not have a workshop then they choose one from their allocated Browsing Box to take home. Browsing box books are a slightly lower level and are selected carefully by the teachers as independent reading.

This reading will probably take about 10 - 15 minutes then the rest of the 30 minutes would be taken up by the student reading their own chapter books to themselves.
Each student has an online Reading Log that is to be kept up to date with the instructional reading and when a child has finished a novel they are very welcome to add it to their log.

School texts such as journals are written by specialised authors and are leveled for the instruction of reading. They are written on a wide range of subjects with varying styles of language to broaden and expand the reading exposure of our students. We teachers very much support the independent reading that the children do at home. This combined with the variety of texts that we supply (at the appropriate level) will ensure well rounded fluency.
